TENDAI is an initiative facilitated by Southern African Regional Programme on Access Medicines and Diagnostics (SARPAM) on tracking the availability of essential medicines and diagnostics in public health facilitates so that average citizens can easily access essential medicines.

The project is supported by SARPAM and at national level the project is being implemented by Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) with Global Hope Mobilization (GLOHOMO) as the implementing organization in Malawi. The project is being implemented in Ntchisi, Lilongwe and Dowa Districts. The project is supported by SARPAM and at national level the project is being implemented by Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) with Global Hope Mobilization (GLOHOMO) as the implementing organization in Malawi. The project is being implemented in Ntchisi, Lilongwe and Dowa districts. GLOHOMO with support from SARPAM has trained and supported 17 monitors to collect data using mobile technology since 2011. The monitors have facilitated community-level collection and use of transparent information about medicines availability, price, quality and resources in Malawi.

The Tendai Project uses mobile technology networks of trained the TENDAI community monitors to collect clinic-level surveys on the availability of medicines, as well as anecdotes and photographic evidence that demonstrate the everyday challenges people face in accessing essential medicines and healthcare. Most importantly, they also advocate for open access to quality medicines with local government institutions.

In Malawi TENDAI project monitors have achieved remarkable success in eliminating stock out problems and have persistently advocated for improved infrastructure and better managed human resources. In many instances TENDAI monitors have become the link between health care administrators, providers and beneficiaries at local and National. Most of the data collected by these monitors.

At the community level monitors have participated on meetings and events organized by District Councils. The monitors have been using all these meetings and other platforms to highlight some of the issues emerging from the on-going data collection and monitoring process under the TENDAI Project.Global Hope Mobilization has been conducting review meetings with the civil society trained monitors to review issues from the on-going data collection. GLOHOMO also conducted a national review meetings, GLOHOMO with support from SARPAM has developed TENDAI Manual booklet to assist to increase access to medicines knowledge among locals.
