Presentation of Trophy to Husbands from Manyamula
Presentation of Trophy to Husbands from Manyamula
Tuesday, January 24, 2017
The National Coordinator of Presidential Initiative on Maternal Health and Safe Motherhood Mr. Chimwemwe Chipungu presented a trophy to men from Manyamula at Manyamula Primary Ground in tradition authority M’mbelwa in Mzimba District. The theme of the function was “wise husband escort their spouse to the hospital”.

Mzimba South DHO chose men from Manyamula because of their willingness to go for HTC, ANC, Family Planning and PMTCT with their wives to the hospital particularly when women are pregnant.

Mr. Chipungu was delighted with these husbands for their commitment in escorting their wives to the hospital. He said, “government is putting together ways of training chiefs on safe motherhood so that chiefs too should take part in promoting maternal health in their villages”. And on the challenges that Mzimba south DHO is facing concerning transportation, he said that government will donate an Ambulance in order to mitigate the problem.

During the event the Member of Parliament Mr. Jacob Hara congratulated these men for being exemplary. He added that the event was one of its kind to happen in his area. Mr. Hara continued to encourage even those who are still lacking behind to take part in escorting their wives.

And Dr. Alinafe Mbewe the DHO from Mzimba South thanked health workers from Manyamula Health Center for encouraging couples to come to the hospital. “Though there are a lot of challenges that the district is facing but as an office we are trying to help women not to deliver at home”, Mbewe said. She was also grateful for Global Hope Mobilization for the donation of 21 Pushbike Ambulances in 21 health centers. In additional, Dr. Mbewe said that it is the desire of her office to help work with the community of Mzimba in making sure that no woman is delivering at home.

Though the implementation of male championship started in April but it is yielding results.

There are several organizations that are working in the area with the aim of helping to mitigate maternal health related problems. And organizations that were invited at the event are: Global Hope Mobilization, World Vision, EGPAF and UNICEF.
